‘Man is born free …but is everywhere in chains.’

The quote ‘Man is born free …but is everywhere in chains.’  comes from Jean-Jacques Rousseau’s book ‘The Social Contract’. Jean-Jacques Rousseau was a French philosopher and writer. He argued that all men were all made equal; they were naturally good and that God did not create society, but man did.

I was looking for videos that related to this quote on YouTube and I came across this video relating to western democracy.

In the video we have issues relating to war, money, the government, religion, and television/advertising. All of these have negative aspects to them, thus I thought the quote ‘Man is born free …but is everywhere in chains.’ grasps the concept that we are born naturally into the world, yet we chose to live our own lives in a society that we often see as being corrupt.
